Working in Trucking, “It’s like a family.”
Aman Cox, Professional Truck Driver, Martin Transportation Systems (MTS)
Professional truck driver Aman Cox has been a member of the trucking industry since 2008. He resides in Dayton, Ohio and has been driving for Martin Transportation Systems (MTS) for almost four years now.
As a dedicated driver for MTS, Aman hauls auto parts for the company. He typically spends around 10 hours a day behind the wheel making deliveries throughout his home state of Ohio.
Prior to joining the trucking industry, Aman worked in the food and landscaping industries. Aman joined the trucking industry after his friend, who is also a truck driver, recommended that he look into a career in trucking. “I’m thankful that trucking was there,” he told TMAF.
Aman explained to TMAF that he could not be happier with his career choice. As a professional truck driver, Aman is thankful for the “freedom of the road.” “It’s great to be able to go up and down the highways, see the trees, and be one with nature.”
When he first entered the trucking industry, Aman was working as an over-the-road driver. He appreciated the opportunity to travel America. Because of trucking, Aman has been to nearly every continental state; the only state he hasn’t been to yet is North Dakota.
While Aman enjoyed traveling in states across America, he is now grateful to have found his job with MTS, which allows him to spend evenings with his family after his local routes in Ohio each day, and to be flexible to do the things he loves, like fishing, in his spare time.
Aman’s love for his job and company is evident. “MTS is a blessing,” he said. Speaking about what he loves most about his job, he cited the good routes that he is given and the wonderful people he works with, including his fellow drivers, dispatchers, and terminal managers, as well as those in leadership. “Here at MTS, there is good teamwork all around and there’s always an open-door policy. That’s a very great thing.” Describing the comradery among the team, Aman said, “It’s like a family. We all band together and do the best we can for each other and help one another. I look forward to going to work every day.”
As a professional truck driver safety is a top priority for Aman. “I take my job seriously. Every driver on the road is a mom, dad, son, and daughter. I don’t want them not going home because of some mistake that I made. From my pre-trip on my trailers, to me paying attention to everyone around me on the road, to adjusting my driving for the weather conditions.”
The comradery within trucking extends beyond his company too, Aman said, explaining how truck drivers on the road have stopped and come to his aid when he’s had issues out on the road. “We all do the same job. There’s a lot of other truck drivers willing to help others.” Aman, too, has been known to lend a helping hand to other drivers in need.
Diversity is critical within the trucking industry, according to Aman, who cited how different people with different perspectives and from different areas all have a value to bring to the table.
Speaking about the many different career options for truck drivers, Aman said, “There’s a lot of good opportunities in the trucking industry.” He encourages those interested in trucking to pursue a career in the industry.
When Aman is not behind the wheel, he is enjoying the great outdoors. In fact, trucking has helped him find some great new spots for fishing or camping. “I get to check out new areas when I’m driving, especially if I get detoured. I find some really cool, out of the way places.”
A father or two teenagers, a son and a daughter, Aman also enjoys spending time with his children, whether it’s going to the movies or horseback riding.
