TMAF Highlights Industry Safety Stories during National Safety Month
June is National Safety Month, an opportunity to highlight the importance of safety in the trucking industry. Not only is the trucking industry supported by well-trained professional drivers who are fully committed to road safety, but the entire industry also actively invests in the latest safety measures and technology to ensure the safety of all drivers on America’s roadways.
In honor of National Safety Month, Trucking Moves America Forward (TMAF) issued a call for submissions for safety stories from across the industry that promote safe practices. Below are some of the highlights.
- At Alabama Trucking Association, Daniel Thompson, a Road captain, and 7-time Alabama Truck Driving Champion, is celebrating 43 years of accident-free driving. In addition to carrying out safe driving practices, he also speaks to students about the importance of safe driving.
2. In Maryland, a family-owned business named Sonny’s Trucking LLC implemented a text messaging platform to share information from its monthly safety meetings and encourage safe driving. Reminding drivers to “put Safety first” in each message, Sonny’s Trucking LLC is providing innovative ways to promote safe driving!
3. The AMX brand, an Alabama-based company, is promoting the next generation of safe drivers for their company, customers, and community through their CDL school!
4. Since 1979, Excargo Services Inc. has prioritized safety as a foundational facet of its operations. To maintain a safe working environment on and off the road, they use safety protocols and training programs.
5. SH 130 South operates the State Highway 130 toll road between San Antonio and Austin, Texas. The company’s roadside and traffic management teams work hard to keep commercial vehicles moving safely and efficiently through the corridor. The SH 130 traffic management center monitors the roadway 24/7, and the company’s courtesy patrol is always on call to assist commercial vehicles with roadside issues.
The trucking industry invests at least $10 billion each year in the latest safety technology for trucks on our roads. Companies also invest in safety training programs for their drivers; these programs focus on the best practices and techniques for the drivers traveling America’s roadways. And for individual drivers, there is no greater sense of pride than accumulating safe driving miles. In fact, many drivers have accumulated millions of accident-free miles while behind the wheel, which is celebrated widely throughout the industry though various safety award programs.
