With summer officially here and warm weather blanketing the country, there is the seasonal increase in traffic and number of cars on the road. Families will be on the road headed to the beach or to the home of a loved one. That means that during this busy summer travel season, we’ll all be sharing the road.

For the 3.5 million professional truck drivers on the road, the safety of those around us is one of our highest priorities — and that is a collective priority for all of us throughout the industry. The drivers operating behind the wheel are well-trained and dedicated to safety. We take pride in and celebrate our industry’s safety records.

The trucking industry itself invests $9 billion annually to ensure that the trucks on the road are equipped with the latest safety technology. We’re also working to help alleviate congestion on the road by advocating for investments on the local, state and federal level to modernize and expand our highway system. Proper funding for our roads, bridges and tunnels will not only decrease traffic, but also help keep us all safe while on the road.

Whether you’re operating a truck or a car, we all share a personal responsibility to safety. Traffic can be frustrating for all of us, but it’s important that all drivers remain calm while operating a motor vehicle and always operate at safe speeds and distances. The motoring public should also be mindful not to cut in front of trucks and stay out of a truck driver’s blind spot.

As truck drivers, there’s a strong sense of pride that comes from delivering the important daily goods people rely on and we’re blessed to be able to do that while doing what we love: driving. We’re excited to see you out there and safely share the road with you and your family this summer.

Every day, millions of trucks travel across the country to move America forward. When trucks stop moving, the country stops moving.
