“If you love to drive, see the sights and help others, trucking is for you.”
Gina Jones, Professional Truck Driver, Werner Enterprises
Gina Jones, from Phoenix, Arizona, is a professional truck driver and 2022 America’s Road Team Captain. She has accumulated 1.1 million accident-free miles.
Gina calls herself a “late bloomer.” She is enjoying her second career as a professional truck driver for Werner Enterprises. She just turned 60. Ten years ago in 2012, she left her job in retail at a grocery store chain to try something new. Her husband drove trucks for a living and asked her to join him. The two selected Werner Enterprises, a company that has allowed them to train and team together; Gina was able to learn the tricks of the trade from her husband.
Gina now teams with her husband on her regular delivery route three times a week between Phoenix and Denver. She didn’t think being a truck driver could make her happy as an outgoing extrovert, but she says she has been proven wrong. She loves her job as a truck driver. “It’s amazing. If you love to drive, see the road, and now as a Road Team Captain, I get to help people entering the industry. There are many opportunities for you.”
As the only female selected this year as a Road Team Captain for the ATA — and the oldest in age — Gina Jones is on a mission to attract more women to the industry. “Werner is a great company for female drivers, and it’s never too late to change careers. If you are retired or lost a spouse, trucking is here for you.”
On the weekends, during her reset time, Gina enjoys motorcycle riding with her riding club and spending time with her family. She is a mother of four and grandmother of five. She is a proud military mom and spouse with her oldest son a Navy vet; another son active in the Army, and her husband an Army veteran.
