As the holidays approach, the 2023 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, a 63-foot Norway spruce from West Virginia, was delivered in Washington, D.C. by four professional truck drivers from Werner Enterprises.

Werner Enterprises was selected to be the hauler of this year’s tour. The festive journey began in Monongahela National Forest in early November, where the tree was harvested, and embarked on a route filled with special stops at community events across West Virginia before reaching its destination in Washington, D.C.

Werner’s Chairman, President, and CEO, Derek Leathers, expressed his pride in being selected. “Werner’s selection as the 2023 Capitol Christmas Tree project carrier is truly an honor and testament to our hard work in keeping America moving, no matter the task,” he said in a statement. “The professional drivers entrusted with this prestigious project are highly skilled and embody our core values of safety, service, and leadership. They will do an exceptional job carrying out this unique project and tribute to our country.”

Davila, a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’m excited about the opportunity to partake in such a prestigious event that not many professional drivers have the chance to do. The trucking industry plays a vital part in keeping America moving, and without the drivers, goods would not reach the consumers that need them.”

“It’s both an honor and a privilege,” said Dean reflecting on this opportunity. “During my 35-year career with Werner as a professional driver, the selection for this project is at the top of the list among the incredible opportunities I’ve experienced. I’m also proud to support those who served our country during this special opportunity.”

Simultaneously, husband and wife duo, Steve and Gina Jones, handled the delivery of handmade ornaments and 84 companion trees. All four drivers were selected due to their impressive safety records.

Gina expressed gratitude to Werner Enterprises for the unique opportunity to participate in the event, emphasizing the company’s distinction as the first large carrier selected. Steve, a U.S. Army veteran and Werner Road Team Captain reflected on the rarity of this position, stating, “Werner’s selection, along with my personal selection for this project, is extremely humbling. It will truly be an experience I never forget.”
